Ipsy April 2015

Here’s the Ipsy bag I received in April! I’ve had a hectic month, hence the very late post, but I will be done with finals soon, so I should be able to post more regularly over the summer. Now in case you didn’t know, Ipsy is a subscription beauty service which sends you five beauty samples or full-sized items for $10 per month! If you are interested in subscribing, feel free to use my referral link.

April’s theme was Beautifully Bohemian, and the bag was a colorful, woven material. I received the following products:

  • Hikari Cosmetics Blush in Tango, $15.00
  • Hey Honey Good Morning – Honey Silk Facial Serum, $11.55
  • theBalm Cosmetics NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single in Fit, $3.75
  • Jor’el Parker Femina rollerball perfume, $21.00
  • Starlooks Satin Finish Lip Gloss, $2.79

Total value of my bag this month = $54.09

While the value of this bag is quite high, I didn’t particularly enjoy the contents, simply because I received a lot of products I don’t use. I will only be using 1 out of the 5 products (the facial serum), so although this bag has high retail value, it has low personal value for me. There were a lot of other products I would have rather received, but I had a great bag last month, so this month’s bag kind of averages this out. Anyways, I’m looking forward to receiving the May bag soon!

Hikari Cosmetics Blush in Tango

Retails for $15.00

I wasn’t particularly excited for this product, mostly because of the shade. It’s a fairly vibrant, bright pink. However, I still wanted to give it a try since I have yet to found a blush that looks good with my skin tone. Unfortunately, this didn’t suit my skin tone that well, and it doesn’t look very natural in my opinion. This is a full size product, and I don’t anticipate using it often, so I will probably give it to a friend or try to find some other use for it. I used it on top of a lipstick for a matte lip look, but it’s inconvenient to apply.

Hey Honey: Good Morning - Honey Silk Facial Serum
Hey Honey: Good Morning – Honey Silk Facial Serum, sample size of 10 ml

Hey Honey Good Morning – Honey Silk Facial Serum

Estimated retail value of $11.55 (based on full size retailing at $41.00 for 1.20 oz)

This is a product I was happy to receive since I wanted to try more facial serums. I recently finished a facial serum (Sephora Ultimate Brightening Serum), so this came at a good time. The serum absorbs quickly and makes my skin feel so smooth! It has a faint honey scent. I am saving this for traveling later this month, since it’s a nice travel-friendly size.

theBalm Cosmetics: NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single in Fit, sample size of 0.035 oz

theBalm Cosmetics NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single in Fit

Estimated retail value of $3.75 (based on full size retailing at $36.00 for 0.336 oz)

Every Ipsy subscriber received this eyeshadow single in either Fit (shimmery copper) or Flirty (shimmery violet). I only wear eyeshadow maybe five days out of the year, and I already have other similar shades, so I will probably be giving this to a friend. I have heard good things about the palette, but eyeshadow is just a product I don’t use often enough for me to keep this.

Jor'el Parker: Femina rollerball perfume
Jor’el Parker: Femina rollerball perfume, sample size of 8.8 ml

Jor’el Parker Femina rollerball perfume

Retails for $21.00

Due to my abundance of perfume, I wasn’t very excited to receive this. The scent is okay, but I don’t like scents with vanilla, which this contains notes of. So I will probably also be giving this to a friend who would like and use it more.

Starlooks: Satin Finish Lip Gloss
Starlooks: Satin Finish Lip Gloss, sample size of 0.03 oz

Starlooks Satin Finish Lip Gloss in Cuddle

Estimated retail value of $2.79 (based on full size retailing at $13.00 for 0.14 oz)

Unfortunately, this is another product I won’t use. I don’t wear lip gloss, especially sparkly lip gloss, so I will passing this along to a friend. I also didn’t particularly like the shade.

  1. Hello! really happy to read you again. I really enjoy your reviews.
For me as well, it is difficult to write for the moment. As I am studying and working full time as well. But in June it will be easier. So for the moment I post pictures 🙂
Regarding serum, I am testing out the one from kiehl’s (I receive a huge sample after I bought the avocado eye cream and the body lotion “creme de corps”): midnight recovery repair. And I really like it.

  2. I agree! I was a little disappointed in last months bag after having such a great March experience. I am very excited about the jetsetter May bag though, mine looks awesome!

      1. So far, I prefer Ipsy because I’m tired of getting body wash, lotion, and hair stuff from Birchbox :/ but the Birchbox point system is amazing! I got a year subscription for $110, which gives me 110 points, and you get at least 5 samples in your box each month (sometimes more), and you can review each sample for 10 points! So if you review everything in your box each month over the course of a year, you can get 600 points from reviews! Initial 110 points from buying subscription + at least 600 points from a year’s reviews + any points you get from shopping in their store (each dollar you spend gives you one point) = at least 710 points over the course of a year! Which is $71 to spend in their shop, but you can only redeem in increments of 100 points. So it’s like you really only pay $39 for a year’s subscription (which is $3.25/box)! I use my points on things I need anyways, like clarisonic brushes, so overall I think Birchbox is worth it, but not if they change their points system. Whew that was a long explanation, but that’s kind of how I justify being subscribed to Birchbox forever haha 🙂

  6. The blush honestly scared me when I first saw it. Bright pink is not anywhere up my alley with blush. It’s not that bad, but I probably won’t use it very often. I took the style quiz again in hopes of getting better products this month. Hopefully the next bag will be better for you.

  7. Hey! Really enjoyed reading this! I used to get Ipsy bags, but I cancelled my subscription because I wasn’t that satisfied with the what I was getting… I’m thinking of subscribing again to Ipsy or maybe trying Birchbox but I’m not sure which one I should go for, or if I should do both. I know I wasn’t satisfied with Ipsy but maybe I should give it another chance? I’m not sure. What do you prefer – Ipsy or Birchbox?? I would love to get your opinion! Thanks!

    1. I personally prefer the Ipsy bags I have received over the Birchboxes, but it depends on what you prefer! Ipsy has more makeup and gives out larger samples and full size products, while Birchbox has more variety than just makeup (skincare, body products, perfume, etc) and generally smaller sizes. Ipsy usually has a higher value per month, but Birchbox has an amazing points system!

  9. I loved that blush after blending it a lot it looks really natural for me but I’m really pale as it is. That was the only thing that caught my attention with this bag. I can’t wait for what you think of May it was a good month for ipsy!

  10. Hi Ipsy. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Not that interested in beauty products unless I change gender in the near future. Not in my plans, but I am interested in your camera, the Cannon in your image. Do you like it? I’m looking for something a little more capabable than the full automatic I use; something that has access to manual settings and does a little zooming and panorama-ing.

  11. I’m not sure the beauty stuff works for me. I need a much more high-powered approach – some say the bag might be better over my head!
